Colchester Entomology

Today we found the cutest little critter crawling up Megan’s leg.  Looked like a mammal in caterpillar form.  So soft and furry looking, you just wanted to pet it.

Good thing we didn’t.  It turns out that this little guy is the Southern Flannel Caterpillar or Asp Caterpillar, a.k.a. Megalopyge Opercularis.  This nasty little bugger is actually venomous and can cause some serious injury.

Lesson learned.  Don’t touch anything until you google it.  Until you know what you’re dealing with, just poke it with a stick.
