Dan Hayes returned to assess the age and nature of the soils in the Test Units on the prehistoric site yesterday. He was impressed with the well-developed E Layer above subsoil, and said it was a sign of a healthy forest. Portions are deep enough that it would have been undisturbed by plowing, which means that intact features are possible. I’ll be discussing Dan’s assessment in more detail during my presentation at next month’s ASV Northern Virginia Chapter meeting on June 8th.
There was a lot of wildlife wandering around the woods yesterday. Here is a picture of Stefan next to a brand new baby deer!
